ANOTHER MARE'S NEST.
The New Zealand Times, which is excelling itself in the discovery of mare's nests, has unearthed another. A few days ago it mentioned that Mr O. C. Pleasants, as a reward for having stood down at the last election, had been made a Government Valuer. The Feilding Star pricks the bubble in the following terms : "The facts are that Mr Pleasants was not mentioned as a candidate for Oroua at the last election, and he did not therefore get the opportunity of 'standing down.' - He was a candidate for Oroua in the Liberal interest five years ago, when Mr D. H. Guthrie defeated both him and Mr R. E. Hornblow by an absolute majority on the first ballot. Some time afterwards Mr Pleasants was appointed a Government Valuer by the Ward Government, and has held that position ever since. The brick which the Times throws at the present Government, therefore, misses Mr Massey and strikes Sir Joseph Ward on the political head with a sickening thud."
