WHEY BUTTER.

OPENING OF NIKEAHA PLANT. • The whey butter plant which has been .installed by the Nireaha Cooperative Dairy Oompa.ny in connection with its cheese factory was officially opened on Thursday, in the presence of a large crolwd of local resibesides visitors from Eketaliuna arid other outside districts. Mr H. Griffith briefly sketched the movement which, led Tip to the, installation of the plant, and congratulated: the shareholders and directors on.possessing such up-to-date machinery. He then declared the whey separating plant open. The machinery was thereupon set in motion, and some 2000 gallon's of whey was put through in a little over the hour, three separators- being.used.. Perhaps -the most interesting •"portion x>f the??plant is'; the .combined churn and separator, which is the most uprto-date of its kind on the, market. The average amount of butter obtained is 31bs fdr 1001b of whey. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from the member of the district, Mr G. EL Sykes and Mr F. 0. Turftor, Mayor of Eketahuna. During the afternoop the ladies of the district dispensed tea in a lavish manner,- whiclr\» r as done full justice to. :'•;■
