DEFENCE VOTE. The Estimates were further considered in the House of Bepresentatives yesterday afternoon and evening. The vote for Defend wrrs cliscussed at considerable length. Several members warned the Government against the growing expense oi the system. The Labour members against the imprisonment of boys. The expenditure on.,forage r for the N.Z. Artillery and on drillsheds was criticised. The vote was eventually put through without amendment. The House then discussed ! the Lands and Survey Department vote. In reply to criticism, the Premier stated that he intended asking the House-this session for £IOO,OOO to assist in roading the bakWblocke.
