WAIRARAPA CRICKET ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL REPORT.

The following is the annual report of the Wairarapa Cricket Association, j to be presented at the meeting of delegates next month: "In submitting our report for the season 1912-13, we are pleased to report a successful season frdm a crick- j eting point of view, although our re- > presentatives failed very badly in the representativ-3 matches. As members are aware, we had a visit from the •South Melbourno Cricket Club, which club our representatives played a twoday*' match, the South Melbourne team winning by an innings and over 100 runs. There is very little in connection with this match from players' point of view to irention, as our team made such a poor showing. Although we did not make the best shdw as cricketers, it can be said we made the best of hosts, and treated the South Melbourne team to a royal time while they were in Mosterton, for which they showed much appreciation, and presented a seat to be 'placed in our Park, which arrangement is now complete, and ivill be put *• in position as,soon as the season ' opens. . Our-, representatives also played a match against a visiting team irom Manawafu and district, namely the Nomads, in which pur representatives met. with similar treatment to that received in the Souh Melbourne match. However, our re- . presentatives again proved tl . good hosts, and the Nomads spent a very enjoyable time, for which we had their heartiest thanks. During the season the championship competition was very* keenly contested, the weather on the whole being on its best f behaviour, the Carlton team being the winners, after a very exciting finish Avith the Maryborough Club, who are to be* commended on the manly, spirit in which shey came to Masterton every Saturday to play at a great disadvantage, and must/be heartily congratulated on being runners-up. I might here mention the good spirit shown by the Masterton Club in splitting up its team to make tw r o teams for the benefit of the association, thus roajifc four teams competing, and weakening their own chance of winning. Another match that requires special mention is .the Thursday*. Saturday in which ] the Thursday Association proved too strong for*the Saturday representa- [ tives. As you are all no doubt aware, j-the South Melbourne team's visit was, not a financial success. The receipts amounted to £27 6s 2 and the expenses to £67 18s, leaving a debit balance of '£4.o 12s 3d;; Thanks,' however, to | the ; following gentlemen, who assist-"; ed us sol ably, we are able to finish the season but very little to the bad, viz., 16s 9d, which amount I have paid and donated to the Association, thus leaving jitwithVa clean sheet to start the incJiPlir'g iseason. The following gentlemen-) kindly assisted -with' r members £10; ■ Mr" Maiinsell,W. G. Beard, Gawith and Logan, Mr Whatman £5 each; W. H. Jacksoa, Chennells and. Co., G. H. Parry and Co., F. Rummer, A Henderson O, C. Cooper, -Wfc Summerell,,-G. Williams, J. L. Murray, E. Collinge, W. -Cruickshank, D. Caselberg. Mr Pragnell, J. Fraser, H.'Morrison, J. Coradine, W. Bidwill, G; R. Sykesand P. L. Hollings £1 each. The halance-sheet shows that the expenditure for the season amounted to £BB 2s 8d and the receipts £B7 5s lid. The thanks of ' the Association are due to Mr D. K. I Logan for the large amount of j he has d»ne during the season, playing a very large part in entertaining the visitors. In conclusion* I beg to thank the committee for the able man! ner an which Ehey assisted me .to carry out the duties of j yqur Asisociation. ''Owing to pressure of business and large amount of work I have on hand, I am compelled to tender my resignation as secretary of your association. "W. R. KEMBALL, "Secretary."
