CAUSE OF OBSTRUCTION.
It is manifest -Ebl those who have an acquaintance with the working of the party system, that the flagrant waste of time and money, to say nothing of the strain imposed upon legislators and officers of Parliament, which we have seen during; the last Sew days, has been the result of a desire on the part of the Opposition to gain a party advantage. There has 1 been no great principle at stake. rThe plea tihat the Government has not supplied full reports is a pretext for covering up the real catise of the obstruction. The Opposition merely wants to block the business of the country. It is fearful lest the liberal programme by the Government shall be given effect to. It desires to make the session as barren as possible. And so, 'with a shameless disregard for the people's interests, with an assumption of virtue, that, in view of its past career, smacks of hypocrisy, it holds up the business in a disgraceful manner. Fortunately the Government is in such a position that it can afford to wait its time. Its followers j have expressed their willingness, if need be, to continue the session until after Christmas. And the Opposition alone will be to blame for fhe scandalous waste of money that will be involved by the prolongation of the session. The responsibility is theirs, and they must accept it.
