A PALTRY INCIDENT.
Attention was called in the House of Representatives on Saturday by Mr G. W. Russell to the fact that Dr Valintine, Chief Health Officer, had delivered an addYess before the A uckland Women's Political Reform League on ttfie .subject of the small-
pox epidemic. Mr Hit.-.--11 evidently thinks that the Chief Ileal- t Officer, who was invited to deliver the address, has committed a offence. If Jio. wa« n<A. hlindod by political prejudice, he wouhl recognise that Dr Valintino h;ul done only what might reasonably be ».wheeled of a statutory office!, whoso services are available to all seetums of (.he community. The Health Officer would not, we make bold to >oy, decline to deliver an address to the Members of the Social-Democrat ie. Leslie, or any other League, if hj" vet-,, invited to do so. Departmon'. ;i: officers are periodically delivering -uldresses before the Farmers' i'nion and other private combination ~..<>i individuals. It is their duty, as well as their privilege to do so, and only men otf distorted political vision would raise an objection.
