JUNIORS. REDSTARI6-.TAUERU 5. Theso team£ met on the old showgrounds, when 'tho juniors proved too hard a problem for their burlier opponents. In tho first spell the local lads had it all their own way, and in the second- spell, although the visitors rallied on one occasion, the game was mostly in the latter's ter- I ritory. For the winners tries were scored by Blackmail, Ewington (2), and Clark, and W. Land potted a field goal. The final scores were : Red Stars 16 ; Taueru 5. AUSTRALIANS DEFEATED. SECOND TEST MATCH. (By Telegraph — Press Association.) ■ DUNEDIN, Last Night. I Tho second test match, Australia v. New Zealand, was played to-day. . The weather was fine, but a trifle j cold, and the ground was heavy as a | result of heavy rain early in the morning. Nearly 1500 spectators were I present. • Four minutes after the start O'Leary had a shot at goal from a'free kick, the ball going just outside the posts, and the visitors forced. Australia had a slight advantage for some time, and eventually the backs got on a passing rash from the New Zealand twenty-five, Sutton scoring a good try near the pojsts. Simpson failed with the kick. A good kick by O'Leary sent the ball out at the visitors' twenty-five, and the latter forced. Immediately afterwards, for .-holding the ball, a sew South Wales player was penalised, in front of the . goal, but Spillane failed with the kick. A. loose rush by the New Zealand forwards looked like yielding a scove, but Australia cleared, and the ball went to O'Leacy. who jotted 3 splendid goal. 'A f.'eo kick was 1 given to the visitors just afterwards, Simpson's kick just missing. A fine passing rush from near the half-way lino onded in Wilson scoring behind the po&ts. O'Leary converted. The visitors retaliated with a: fine rush, Jones scoring behind tho posts, and Simpson converted. The spell ended New Zealand 9, Australia 8. Four minutes after the opening of the second spell, Tyler scored for New Zealand, O'Leary kicking a fine goal. Good kicking.by the visitors put New Zealand on the 'defensive, and Jones tricked the opposition and scored behind the posts. Simpson converted. New Zealand than ran over the visitors for a time, Brown scoring once and Oummings twice in quick srccession. The first try was converted by O'Leary. The game then slowed down, and although New Zealand had the best of matters, there was no further .score, the game ending NewZealand 25, Australia 13.
The visitors gave a good display in the first half, 'but New Zealand were superior in the second spell, the backs playing very well, at times. DEFEATS MARL--BOROUGH. BLENHEIM, Last Night. Buller representatives defeated Marlborough by 3 points to nil. WELLINGTON v. CANTERBURY. OHRISTGHUROH, Last Night. The annual inter-provincial football fixture, Canterbury v. Wellington, was played at Lancaster Park. The weather was dull, but fine and cold. There was a capital attendance of the public. Canterbury .won the toss, and half time sounded with no score. The play was characterised by brilliant flashes by individual Canterbury players, and by strong attacking and passing. Wellington strongly attacked in the second half, Henry scoring near the corner. Paton's kick went just outside. Shortly afterwards Canterbury were penalised, and a goal resulted, making the scores Wellington 6, Canterbury nil. Subsequently Canterbury scored a try, but there was no further scdre, and the game ended Wellington 6, Canterbury 3. WELLINGTON B v. WANGANUI. | -WELLINGTON, Last Night. At Rugby the Wellington B team wa« soundly thrashed by Wanganui by 17 points to 3. The local men were weakened by the absence of men in Canterbury,-and though they i made some stand in the first spell, I they went to pieces afterwards. Cun- } ninghame got a try for Wellington in > the first spell, and Faber kioked a ( penalty goal for Wanganui. In the j! second spell Faber, Meuli and Collier (2) got tries for Wanganui, Faber converting one. ALL BLACKS. LEAVE FOR AMERICA. WELLINGTON, Friday! ! The New Zealand Rugby represen- I tative team to tour California, left! this evening by the Willochra for San i Francisco, a large crowd bidding fare- | well to them at the wharf. All the men are repo:-ted to be fit and well, excepting Stoihr and Roberts, who still feel a bit sore through recent injuries. It is expected, however, that
the rest on board ship will soon sot them up. As the team will have to line out for the first match two days after their arrival at 'Frisco, steady practice will be indulged in on"board. All the men were vaccinated in accordance with the shipping regulations.
