MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held yesterday, there being present: Crs. \V. JWelch (chairman), 1). Foreman, J. Miller, A. .1. Percy, H. Toogoud, D. J. Cameron, A. J. Patchebt, C. Cross, and E, ¥. H. Boot ham. Mr W. McGovorn asked leave to place n culvert nt the entrance to his property at Lower Manaia.—On the motion of Cr Percy, the permission asked for was granted. Mr E. X. Bunny requested that action on a notice to fence the gravel reserve at To Koto lie delayed pending a conference with the county engineer.—On the motion of Cr Cameron, tlie request was granted. A letter was read from Mr R. L. Langdon, directing attention to the condition of portions of the Wangaehu road. —The matter was left in the hands of the engineer and councillor for the riding to deal with. JVIr Samuel Turkington wrote, expressing his desire that the whole of his property should be transferred from the Pahiatua County to the Masterton County.—On the motion of Cr Cross, it was decided that the consent of the Pahiatua Council to the transfer of this and other properties be sought. Messrs Osmond Bros., of Wainui-o-Mapu, wrote "asking if there was any valid reason - why a contract should not at once be let for the formation of the Wainuo-o-Mapu road.—The clerk' explained that the. road was hot yet legalised.—lt was decided that Messrs Osmond Bros, be advised that steps are being taken to legalise the road.
Mr Thomas Cooper asked permission to erect a swing gate across the Stronvar road.—On the motion of Cr. Beetham, it was decided that permission be granted for the erection of a gate for a period of twelve, mouths, subject ta t-hfc usual condition. •I '.15 Wairarapa South County Council wrote, stating that it would concur in any measures thought necessary for the security of the Waingawa bridge. The Wairarapa Council expressed the opinion, however, that when the control of a brifige is vested- in" a local body, that body should have absolute discretion to undertake any repairs necessary without reference to the contributing bodies. Mr John Davis, of Alfredton, wrote complaining that-Mr Rooderkirk was felling the scrub along his road-line. —Cr Cross ,stated that the matter had been attended to. A request from Mr H. J. Lord for permission to erect a buggy shed on the road reserve at Bideford was referred to Cr Miller'and the engineer. The Town Clerk of Masterton wrote, stating that no animals had been impounded and sold from the county roads during the last twelve months. A letter from Messrs Gawith and Logan in reference to a site for a roadman's cottage on the MastertonWaimata road was referred to Cr Toogood. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee was read as follows: The treasurer reported as follows: Generallund dr. £3554 19s lOd; local bodies loams account cr., £152 4s 2d, accounts dr. balance £2763 8s 7d. The receipts since August 12th amounted to £238 7s 9d. It was decided that the letter from Mr Henry Bennett relating to the expenditure' of thirds accrued on property in his occupation be referred to the representatives of the Wainuioru riding and the engineer to deal with. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Welch, that oflß half of the cost to the council of the sum paid to the Mauriceville County Council for the gravel pit at Bryan's, be charged to the Rangitumau riding. I It was decided to ask' the Castle- ! point County Council to appoint representatives to attend a conference to be held at the Masterton County office on some convenient day for the purpose of discussng the question of providing the cost of renewing the bridges over the Kahumingi and Rorokoko streams on the MastertonWaimata road, and that Crs. Beetham, Percy, Welch_ and Toogood be appointed to represent the Master- ( ton County Council at such confer- J ence. I
GENERAL,
The engineer was authorised to take steps to open up a road at the Upper Plain in which Miss Pearse is principally interested. On the motion of Cr Patchett. it was decided that the engineer take steps to prospect for. metal in the Alfredton riding.
