ST. MATTHEW'S CHURCH.

THE CONSECRATION SERVICE

The service that will be used at the consecration of the new church in Masterton this month, is one of beauty and simplicity. The Bishop, attended by his chaplain will be met outside the west door of the church by the clergy and choir, the Churchwardens and members of the Vestry. After the petition praying the' Bishop' to, consecrate the Church has been read, and the key is given to the Bishop, the Lord's Prayer will' he said and the Bishop, followed by the procession, entering the churchy and standing at the, west end, shall say: "Peace be to this House from God our Heavenly Father; Peace be to this House from His Son who is our Peace; Peace be to this House from the Holy Ghost the Comforter." The procession will then proceed to the chancel singing the twenty-fourth psalm. The keys being laid upon the holy table, the litany will be said with special intercession and prayer. Then, after a hymn has been sung, the special parts of the Church will he dedicated to God's service, i.e., the Font, the Lectern, the Pulpit, the Clergy and Choir Stalls, the Holy Table, the Communion Vesselsi and Linen. The sentence of consecration will then be read and signed by the Bishop, who will declare the Church to be cosecrated, and the Te Deum will be sung. Then will follow the office of the Holy Communion with special collects, epistle and gospel.
