THE CIVIL SERVICE.
We hare been told in and out of Parliament during the last few days that the Public Service is seething with unrest, that the new classification list has caused consternation among the servants of the State, and that the Government will either be summarily dismissed from the Treasury benches or compelled to repeal the Public Service Act. It will cone as a shock to the pessimists to learn that at a largely attended meeting of the Civil Service Association, held in Christchurch, a resolution was carried* "That in spite of many anomalies which still exist, members of this branch appreciate the benefits of the provisional classification schedule," Where, .may we ask, is the seething unrest? Where is the consternation in the Public Service? It is unfortunate for the Opposition and its literary apologists that its predictions and assertions should be so completely falsified.
