SWEEPING THE COAST OF VIRGINIA. VESSELS "WRECKED. (Received September 4, 1 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 3. From Newport News, Virginia, comes reports that a hurricane is sweeping the coast. The former Old Dominion paddle steamer Mobjack, 610 tons, is reported to have sunk. Eight of her crew and several passengers are missing. A launch belonging to the battleship Nebraska was overwhelmed. Three petty officers -and five men were drowned.

Several schooners have been wrecked with slight loss of life.
