ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT.
A DETECTIVE'S EVIDENCE.
(Received September 4, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 3.
In connection with the pearl necklace robbery, Joseph Grizard, Simon Silverman, and Leisir Gumwirth (Austrian diamond dealers), John Lockett (jeweller), and James McCaithy (ajged •eighty-two years) were charged at the Bow-street. Police Court and remanded for a week.
A detective deposed that he and others watched the prisoners on Monday at the Museum Station, and arrested them on Tuesday. A sum of £230 in gold and Bank of England note was found on McCarthy. The latter declared his innocence and said he had just sold two houses. He added that a Continental gentleman had given him French bank notes, which he had changed for English. A search of Lockett had revealed £330 in .bank notes, jewellery, and several pearls. Silverman had a quantity of French notes on. him; also a pawn ticket for £BO for a buneh of pearls.
TWO PEARLS RECOVERED. (Received Last Night, 11.35 o'clock.) LONDON, Sept. 4. Two large pearls of the missing necklace have been recovered, their value being £12,000.
