THOMFSOW-PAYNE PICTURES. "HIGH TREASON." It, wo aid bo a very difficult matter indeed bo find a more superior class of films than those produced by the Cines Co. Although this well-known firm produco subjects in every section of motion photography, it is in highclass dramatic works that they excel. There have been illustrations in proof of this point. Further proof will be found in "High Treason," the star j drama subject in the new programme to bo screened at the ThompsonPayne Pictures to-night. Briefly told, "High Treason" is a highly dramatic and powerful story, of a trusted Government servant's fall and recti-tii-do through the extravagance of his wife, and the scheming of an •unscrupulous financier. Political intrigues, fine war scenes*, and an abundance of oxciting incidents keep tl» interest sustained right up to the final scenos. There is nothing of an improbable or impossible nature about this fine picture. It stands in a class by itself, and is sure to create a great impression. A dramatic item by the Lubin-Company entitled "The Spoiled Ohild" sliouldipr-ove most interesting and popular; •'• The -Savoia Company will be represented/in a stirring production entitled "Saved from the Guillotine." "In the Northern Territory," an I.M.P. drama, should prove an exceptional item. "JugglingWith.Fato" is: a really fine Wes-: tern' yarn, which shows a .man's daz*ing and bravery in asaisting-to run a brigand to earth. .The.latest Topical Gazette will give the latest fashions arid'news in animation. A Lubin comedy entitled "Slightly Mistaken," should prove a good laughter raiser. Other interesting subjects are "A Day of Haste," and "Polidor Electrified."

TOWN HALL PICTURES. "THE SPECTRE OF THE SEA." The enterprise shown by the Masterfcon Picture Company was again rewarded lust evening, when a bu-nper house was present to witness the final screening of the current series. Tonight a complete change, of programme is arranged, tho list comprising all that is in the moving picture world. Tho star item is a, Meister drama entitled ''The. Spectre of the Sea," in wKich the title role is taken by Miss Helen Porten, one of the leading actresses of the day. The story deals with the life" of Eve: lyn, a ; painter of ,sea pictures: She is caught on one occasion by the tide, "but a'-young, ffelierra'an comes to her rescue. :. Tho, lrrtter, forgetting his fisher lass, Incomes infatuated with Evelyn, who, when sho.hears of the other girl's,existence, repulses the fisherman. The'result.is >a scene full of tragedy, ending in the suicide of the young, hut .foolish, man. Years after, Evelyn visits the home of the dead fisher lad, and in the dark hours of night tho spectre <Jf the drowned man appears before her. , A wonderfully realistic drama is"this ,and should appeal to all. Another exceptionally fine film is that entitled "Bough Hide with Nitro-glycerine" in which a reckless «band of desperadoes are engaged by another man to ruin a young oil operator by dynamiting his oil well. The band endeavours to capture a waggon loaded with explosives, and the wild chase which ensues is full of thrilling incident. The miscreants are in turn chased by the sheriff MKI Wfi men, lending citem«nt to a film, which teems with* interest and incident. "Just Show Folk" is a fine production by the Yitagraph Company, in which the many scenes which go to make the daily routine of circus life are vividly portrayed. Rosa, the wife,of the clown, is a wonderful performer, and hei' beauty appeals to a wealthy man, La Bine, who contrives to separate she and her husband. Failing to do so, he determines on revenge, but his attempt recoils on hig oJpn head, and in a sensational finale, 'high up in*'the noof of the hippodrome, La Bine 'falls to the stage and loses his worthless life. These powerful dramas are supported •by several splendid comedies, including "When n Woman Won't," "Pimple P. 0.," "Jane's Waterloo," and "Tickets, Please," a quartette of picture comedies that will keep all in a happy vein; "Italian Marble Quarries" shows the working of marble quarries, from which comes much of the world's finest marble. "Visit to a Cripples' Home".,will also prove of great interest; This afternoon a •special matinee will be held,) when films of exceptional interest to the little ones wifi be screened. *
