LORD ISLINGTON.
• - APOLOGISES TO THE LORDS. A BREACH OFTHE REGULATIONS. The London Daily Mail of July 26th had the following:— The problem of a vote given by a Peer who had omitted to take the oath of allegiance at the beginning of the present" Parliament confronted the House of Lords on Wednesday. Lord Islington, who has been ab-, sent from England for three years as Governor of New Zealand, offered an apology to the House for voting in the Home Rule division last week under these circumstances. It was solely due, he explained, to being unaware of the new regulation. He had taken the oath once: Lord Lansdowne said no doubt the House would accept unreservedly the explanation tendered to them, but Lord Crewe, while agreeing, pointed out that the appointment of a committee was necessary to deal with a similar case some years ago. Eventually it was decided to make inquiry as to the proper course to take to indemnify Lord Islington.
