MAURICEVILLE WEST.
Out Own Correspondent. Dreams of an early spring came to an abrupt end last night about five o'clock, when a cold downpour set in from the south. A farewell social was tendered to Mr J. E. Deadman and family on Friday evening. A large and representative muster from the surrounding neighbourhood assembled at the hall to say good-bye to one who has been farming, etc., in the district for upwards of twenty-nine years. During the evening Mr Deadman was presented with a Gladstone bag, and Mrs Deadman with a lady's hand-bag. The presentation, wlw& wag Mr E. H. Neilien, was suitably acknowledged by Mr Deadman on behalf of his wife and himself. Mr Mattson and Mr J. P. Petersen also spoke of Mr Deadman's long residence anjongst thein. Miss A. Fossberg presided at the piano, relieved ;by Mr W. Jensen. The following rendered vocal items, which were well received: —iMrs J. P. Petersen, Miss Lafoiley, Mr W. Jensen, Mr 0. Mascelle, Mr : W. Neilsen (comic), encored. Dancing, etc., was kept going till early I morning.
A wedding of considerable local interest is to take place withia a short time. -
