CANADA AND THE NAVY.
NAVAL CONFERENCE FORMED. 'Times'—Sydney Sun' Special Cables. (Received Last Night, 6.55 o clock.) LONDON, August 28. The Times' Toronto correspondent says that although Australia anti the Imperial authorities favour the proposed Paoiiic Naval Conference atf Vancouver, it is doubtful whethei Canada is ready for such a conference. The disposition of the Government is to adopt the policy of New Zealand or for preference the policy of Australia. The Montreal Herald urges an Imperial conference of wider scope than any previously held. The naval question involves issues eo vast that almost any, sacrifice is justified in order to reach the right solution. Unless a plan is applied to all oversea Dominions, the era of chaos is likely to continue. The Herald adde that it is inevitable. that the naval policy for some time to come must continue to be a party question in Canada.
