ROYD GARLICK COMMITTIEE.
| EVIDENCE OP MR HORNBROOK. (By Tdegr&ph—Prm Auodatioh.) WELLINGTON , Last Night . The Royd Garlick Committee resumed this afternoon* - Mr.T. M. Wilford called Frederick. Arthur Hormbroak, physical- culturist, of Christchurch. He Baid he had got his diploma as a masseur in the same way as Mr Royd Garliok, with-, out examination. He thought .'no one but a qualified medical physical instructor should v liave been appointed Director of the New Zealand system. N either Mr Garlick nor himself had these qualifications. The ffrst essential to building up a State system of physical training was to have a highly-trained, highly educated man at its head. They had nothing to learn from Australia in the matter of physical training. He waa not a disappointed man, not considering himself qualified for the posi-« tion of Director, though his qualifications were ae good as Mr Garlick's. It was absurd to send Mr Garlick to Australia to get instruction. There was no university there capable of giving him the requisite training. Witness taught Mr Garlick in 1902. He knew nothing of Mr Garlick's qualifications as an organiser. To Mr Herdman: He thought tho manual prepared for use in schools was excellent; The American system of physical training was in advance of the English system, because the men at its head had been through a university course. To Mr Millar: No man with less qualifications than an American university graduate should; have been appointed Director of the New Zealand system.
Mr Wilford closed his case. The Committee will proceed with the hearing of Mr LaurensonV charges to-morrow^
