MINERS' STRIKE.
TROUBLE OVER A NIGHT SHIFT AT BLACKBALL. ' 350 TO 400 MINERS AFFECTED. (By Telegraph — Press Association.) GREYMOUTH; Last Night. A strike occurred in the Blackball mine to-day, 330 to 400 men coming out in consequence of the management's refusal to discontinue the dog watch, known as the night shifty from 10 p.m. to 6. a.m. Botli sides are reticent as regards the details. It is understood the . Miners' Union refused as a body to work unless the dog watch shift was abolished, with the result that the management accepted the request as an iiltimattim. All work is at a standstill to-day. The Blackball Company's steamer Ngahere left loaded to-day for Wellington. The Ngatoro and Petone's movements are now uncertain. Later. It is unofficially stated in town today that on the dog-watch shift 11 to 20 miners are employed, the great bulk of the employees being engaged on: the two intervening shifts.
