CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
CARTERTON BRANCH. __ V A most, successful ingleside under the auspices of the Carterton branch of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society, was held in the Victoria Hall, Carterton, on Friday evening, loth inst., about 500 members being present. The President of tHe Society (Mr Georgeson), in a short speech, congratulated the local committee and the bdies' committee on the splendid arrangements which had been made to ensuro the success of the gathering. Thereafter dancing commenced, and during the evening several songs were rendered, and Mr J. Lowndes (manager of the British and Continental Piano Company) gave several gramaphone selections. This firm also generously lent the piano. An excellent supper was prepared by the ladies, and Scotland's favourite dish, the "haggis," was carried round the hall in time-honoured fashion by Mr P. S. Arcue (President of the branch) to the Titusic of the pipes. Dancing was kept up till 2 a.m., and proceedings terminated by the singing of Auld Lang Syne. The Society's Pipe Band, under, the leadership of Pipe-Major Pearson, played through the street and afterwards in the hall. .
