EKETAHUNA HOSPITAL.

QUESTION OF CARETAKER. FURTHER INFORMATION WANTED. At the meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital .arid Charitable Aid 'Board yesterday, a letter was read from the secretary of the Eketahuna Hospital Committee, stating that, the committee was prepared to hand over its land and fund to the Board, provided that provision wasi made for a caretaker, and that the work be gone on with at once. * Mr R. B. Robertson stated that it seemed as if Eketahuna was endeavouring to get all it asked for in the first instance. The Chairman: It looks like it. Mr Fisher said the original motion was that a one-room cottage, with an emergency roSm attached, should be provided. He moved that the request of the Eketahuna committee now be absolutely declined. Mr Bennett asked why a recommendation on the matter had not come from the Central Committee. The Chairman said this was a large question, which the Central Committee thought should be, dealt with by the Board as/ a whole. Mr Bennett considered that the Board having proceeded so far in the matter, should go on with the work. The Chairman stated that the Board had not agreed to make provision for a caretaker. Mr Ewington thought it had been generally understood that there should be a caretaker. How were they going to get along when the Distric Nurse was away in the country? In his opinion a caretaker was necessary. The Chairman said they would have to go carefully into the matter. He pointed out that the Board had only agreed to provide a room for the nurse. If they allowed the establishment of ai cottage hospital, they would have applications from Martinborough, Pongaroa and elsewhere. In answer to a question, the Chairman stated that no information had been received as to the cost of the proposed building or the money in hand. On the motion of Mr Bennett, seconded by Mr Jackson, it was decided that the Eketahuna Committee bo asked for an estimate of the cost of the proposed building, and information as to the money in hand. Mr Rummer expressed the opinion that the site for the proposed building was rather far out of the township of Eketahuna.
