INSULT TO THE PRESS.
The action of Mr A. D. McLeod, a Martinborough representative on the Wairarapa: Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, in demanding that the Press representatives leave the room while a discussion was being taken in committee, was an unwarranted and •entirely uncalled-for reflection upon the newspaper Press of this town. It is a well-recognised" mile amongst newspapers that any business! transacted in committee shall be regarded as sacr4d. Ab far as we are aware, on no occasion has this rule been violated by either of the Masterton newspapers. If information has reached Press from outside : sources, aiid has b©® n published, that is a matter between the newspaper and tlio parties concerned. It is no warranty ;for the implication conveyed by Mr McLeod that the newspaper representatives cannot be. trusted to honourably observe a confidence. For ourselves, we resont the imputation cast by JVIr McLeod, and we invite him to prove that on any one occasion the confidence of the Board has been abused by the local Press. If he cannot do this, we expect him, as an honourable man, to apologise for the insult he has so gratuitously and unwarrantably offered.
