FROZEN MEAT.
OPENING OF FOREIGN MARKETS. AN INTERESTING STATEMENT. Speaking at the annual meeting of shareholders of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company yesterday, Mr J. C. Ooopesr (Chairman of Directors) said: "Apart from the steady growth of the Horn's market, we have other markets now to consider. A great deal has beeu said about the opening up of the Continental markets for our meat, arid there is no doubt that before very long the various countries of Europe must open their ports; but in the North American Continent I believe we shall find one' of our best (markets. This company has already done some business with Vancouver, and it is astonishing how the trade with Canada has developed during the last year or two. Recent indications seem to show that the United (States will shortly open its ports to the importation of meat. In this country there is a large population used to a high standard of living, where meat supplies are already inadequate. The opening of the Panama Oanal as a trade route will enable our trading steamers to call at Atlantic ports, where there are some of the largest manufacturing centres, in the world. Y . I might state that for the last two seasons we have sold our pelts to an American firm), who first of all had to land them in London, to be transhipped to I New York and Boston, and I believe that in the near future we shall find a good market in those large centres for every article we produce. But while America possesses some big advantages, I still think London is going to take a lot of beating as a merket for our best" quality of mutton and lamb."
