ALLEGED ILLEGAL PAYMENT. TO dffiHRMAN OF A COUNTY . COUNCIL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEJjIiDING, Night. ; At theCroua County Council meeting ti>-day, the Chairman ([Mr Hugh BurrelL\ laiSt oil the table/ a., letter.: received' from the Auditor-General. The letter pointed out that the. bal-ance-sheet showed that ; £35 U 1 travelling allowances had been paid to the Chairman, in lieu of the 'actual* travelling expenses provided, by the Act. The .letter further said: • 'This being .the. case, my duty is to call upon you to refund < the . amount of such* allowance, and* i shall be glad to consider any reasons you may wish to submit why 1 should not take tion accordingly."
