annual MEETING. | The annual meeting of member of J the Masterton Racing Club was held in 'Murray's Hall yesterday afternoon. The chair was occupied by Mr C. F. Vallance (President), and about | forty members were present. | The annual report and balance j sheet, (already published), were tak- | on as read. In moving their adoption, , the President congratulated the members upon the improved position of the Club, i The bank balance was a little higher than last year, but when they considered the improvements put on the course, they would find that they were in a much better position. There had been three successful race days during the year, and he believed that they would have three still more successful days during the < commg year. (Hear, hear). Ihe President congratulated the Stewards upon the excellent work they had r done during the year. They had relieved him of a good deal of responsibility. . In seconding the motion, Mr U. C. Cooper. also congratulated members on the successful year they had , experienced. They had got round the / cornel', and were on a sound footing. He also congratulated the Stewards ou the work they has done. One of the Stewards in particular (Mr A. G. primer), had worked hard to ensure the improvement of the course, and they could now consider that they had very good appointments. Mr Cooper mentioned that they had liabilities, amounting to about £SOO, and' a mortgage on their property , of £3OOO. He thought the time had arrfved when the Club should form a: sinking fund. (Applause). f ■Mr J. Caselberg asked whether, in view of the prospects of National Prohibition, followed by the abolition of the totalisator, it was desirable to spend further large stums on tfie course. (Laughter), The President stated that the Club had expended most of the money that was required on improvements for some time to come. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. I The election of officers resulted as follows-President, Mr C. F. Variance; Vice-President, Messrs J. Macara, J. lorns, A. G. Piimer, D. McLachlan; Timekeeper, Mr A. Henderson; Treasurer, Mr C. F. Vallance; Clerk of Course, Mr H. W. Smith; Stewards, Messrs C. J. Bennett. R. Buick, W. B. Chennells, 0. G. Cooper, W. Cooper, Frank 'k>r set, H. Doug'as, F. Evans, P. Harrison, A. J. Welch," J. Whittaker, and G. H. Yates; Auditor, Mr G. W. Sellar. STAKES. On the motion of the President, seconded by Mr W. Cooper, it was decided that the Stewards be authorised to allocate a sum of mot exceeding £2500 in stakes during the coming, year. NEW MEMBERS. Messrs D. B. Oarrick, F. .G. Maunsell, H; Rossorf, H. J. Lord, and W. Richards were elected new members. THE PRESS. On the .-motion of Mir O. C. Cooper, seconded by Mr E. G. Eton, a> vote of thanks was passed to the Press for the manner in which it had supported the Club during the year. This concluded the business. ' MEETING OF STEWARDS. At a meeting of Stewards, held after the annual meeting, Mr O t F. Vallance was • elected chairman , for the einsuing year. A letter was read from Mr A. E. Whyte, Secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, stating that the monthly meeting of the District Committee would be held on July 31st, to deal licenses, ©to. A lengthy communication was read from Mj v C: Louisson, of Palmerston North, complaining, of the handicapping of his horse Martlet for the Masterton meetings, and of the illogical reply of Mr Pollock.—The communication was received. The Secretary of the N.Z. Sporta Protection League wrote, acknowledging the Club's contribution towards the League.—lt was decided that a cheque for £lB 10s be forwarded to the League. The Treasurer reported a debit balance at date of £547 7s 4d. Accounts amounting to £45 17s 4d were passed for payment. 0 The following sub-committees were elected for the ensuing year:— Ground Committee: Messrs Vallance, W. Cooper, Dorset, iMcLachlan, Welch, Douglas and Bennett. Programme Committee: Messrs Vallance, Douglas, Harrison, Macara, Piimer, Dorset and Buick. Licensing Committee: Messrs Vallance, W. Cooper, R. Buick and Whittaker. Catering Committed: 'Messrs Bennett, Whittaker and Chennells. Finance Committee: Messrs Vallance, 0. C. Cooper, Chennells and Maoara. Mr J. H. Pollock was re-elected handicapper, Mr W. H. Hartgill judge, and Mr C. O'Connor starter. It was decided, that Mr Kraetzer be appointed detective for the year.
