BOXING ASSOCIATION.
THE ANNUAL MEETING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TTMARTI, Last Night. At the annual meeting of delegates of Boxing Associations, the chairman (Mr H. Goodwin, of Timaru), in his opening address, reoommended the setting up of- a special authority to control the issue of "permits to hold competitions. He suggested that the Minister of Justice, the Police Commissioner and an elected number of the Boxing Association in Wellington be that authority. He spoke in support of the Wellington remit, recommending the carrying on. of competitions on a percentage basis, as at present local associations ran great .financial risks in favour of professionals, who were out to make money. After a good deal of discussion on a remit from Otago, it was carried unanimously that no competitor shall represent a centre at the New Zea- I land Championships unless he is a . bona fide resident of the. centre, but that he shall be eligible to represent any other association, provided the. consent of his own centre is obtained, it was decided that "bona fide resident" means one who has been resident for at least one month. / "Break" was defined to mean that each competitor must step back, with both feet after the call "break." On the question of competitors' expenses, it was decided that professionals be limited to £ls. The present rule regarding amateurs (travelling and board) is to remain. A remit to give the controlling body the option of giving a prize or not in a walk-over was rejected, as was also a remit to hold future conferences in Wellington. After a good deal of discussion, it was decided that the promotion body may give professionals ■ a purse or a percentage. A proposal that all matches be made through the association was not adopted, but a recommendation is to be sent to the council that when matches are made, the local secretary be advised. A remit asking that control by centres be better defined was withdrawn, as the present rule? suffice, if acted upon. Regarding the suggestion mentioned by the chairman, of an official authority to control the issue of permits, it was decided to set up a oomaaittee to deal with the matter in Wellington. It was decided to delete from the rule regarding providing men for byes, the words referring to these additional entries. It was decided to submit to the council a proposal that where there are two competitors, the giving of a second prize shall be optional. Some minor matters were dealt with, and the conference closed.
