BOARD OF AGRICULTURE.
THE GOVERNMENT'S INTENTIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last iNight. The Premier to-day gave the Agricultural Conference some more definite details on the constitution and duties of the Board of Agriculture. It was, he said, intended to establish a board consisting of twelve members. One, of course, would be the Minister of Agriculture of the day. Three members would be nominated by the Government, . and eight members elected by representatives of the agricultural community in the Agricultural and Pastoral Associations and Farmers' Union. In all probability the Government would ask the President of the iFarmers' Union (Mr J. G Wilson) to take a position on the board as one of the Government's representatives. The duties of the board would be to consider any raiati ter affecting agriculture that may be I referred to them by the Minister; to watch over and promote the interests of all branches of agriculture, to encourage the cultivation of the soil and the development of the agricultural resources of the State, and .to devise such measures as may be necessary for the preservation, protection, en- ' couragement of agriculture generally, and to appoint special committees of agricultural experts to visit and reporFtb tie board on the word of Departmental institutions, such as experimental farms and State Agricultural Colleges. One of the first duties of the board would be to assist the Minister to establish an Agricultural College.
