THE RIMUTAKA DEVIATION
'AMD EAST COAST RAILWAY. DEPUTATION TO THE MINISTERAt its last meeting, the Masterton Chamber of Commerce decided to organise a monster deputation to wait upon the Minister of Public Works in reference to the deviation of the Rimutaka railway and the construction of an East Coast railway line. The secretary has received the following communication from the Hon. %. Fraser:— , "I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter, of the 21st inst., with reference to the deputation from your Chamber which washes to interview me in regard to the Rimutaka deviation and the East Coast railway; and have to state that I shall be pleased tb receive the deputation on Thursday, the 91st inst:, at 2 p.m." The secretary of the Chamber of Commerce sent invitations to the following bodies to send delegates: Masterton, MauriceviUe, Eketahuna, Pahiatua, Oastlepoint, Akifcio, Wairarapa South , and Feathenston County Councils,- Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, Eketahuna and Ptahiatua Borough Councils; Eketahuna and Pahiatua Chambers of Commerce; Masterton, Greytown and.Pahiatua A. and P. Associations; Masterton, Eketahuna, Pahiatua and Whakataki branches of the Farmers' Union; the Wellington City Council and Wellington Harbour Board; Masterton-Waipukurau Railway League; and Messrs W. H. D. Ben, J. HJj Escott, T. 'MpWilford, G. R. Siykea, Dr A. K. "Newman, Hons. F. M. B. Fisher arid A. L. Herdman, and Sir Walter Buchanan, M's.P. ' - ' . ' ■ The Masterton-Waipukurau Railway League has written, stating that, the McDonald) and secretary (Mr Mclntyre) have been appointed delegates to the deputation. The Wellington Harbour Board have appointed the chairman * (Mr R. Fletcher), and Messrs Hildreth, Jones ana Watson. The Whakataki branch of the Farmers' Union have agreed to be represented, and the Masterton branch wall be represented By Messrs Hugh Morrison and D. McGregor. The Wairarapa P. and A. Society will be represented by the President and Mr H. R. Bunny. The Carterton Borough Council has appointed Cr. Callister as its representative. The Eketahuna Chamber of Commerce has intimated that it will be represented. (Its delegates frill also represent the Eketahuna branch of the Farmers' Union.) The Featherston Town Board has appointed Commissioners W. Benton, M. B. Tait and A. Donald as delegates. The Eketahuna County Council has appointed its chairman (Cr Dawson) as delegate. The Wellington City Council has notified that it will be represented. The Castlepoint County Council has appointed Cr Innes as delegate. The Masterton County Council has also intmated that it will be represented. No information has yet come to hand from Pahiatua or Martinborough. Mr W. H. D. Bell M.P., has intimated that he will join the deputation if he can postpone an- I other engagement. The Hon. F. M. ( B. Fisher states that if public, business permits he will have pleasure in being present. Mr J. H. Escott, M.P., has advised that he will be pleased to attend. The Hon. A. L. i Herdman says it wall give him pleasure to be present if his engagements will allow. Dr A. K. Newman states: "I will be glad to attend with the deputation, and do what I can to push ahead the opening of the Wairarapa East Coast." The Masterton Chamber of Commerce will be represented by Messrs C. E. Daniell, A. T. Spain, and J. C. Cooper. The deputation will be introduced I by Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., and Sir Walter Buchanan, M.P. On their arrival in Wellington, the Wairarapa delegates will meet and confer with the Wellington delegates at the office of the Wellington Cham- | ber of Commerce.
