MASTERTON COMPETITIONS

CONCLUDING SESSION."

The Masterton Musical and Elocutionary Society held its final competitions last evening, when the Town Hall was packed; The medal, presented by Mrs F. Barclay for champion ladv elocutionist, was won by Miss Lulu" Arnold, of Wellington, and the medal presented by Mr O. E. Daniell wae won by Mr Norman Aitken, Wellington. To-night a final demonstration will be given by tlw> prize-winners, and a rare musical treat is promised. Mr Montague last evening thanked the Committee of the Society for their treatment of the judges, and expressed bis appreciation of the high standard the competitions had attained, showing that Masterton had made * great advance in elocution and musical work, as revealed by the present competitions. His remarks were endorsed by. Mr Gregson (judge of the instrumental and vocal section). The judges paid a special tribute to Mr Spencer Compton for. his stage arrangements and general management, stating that there had been no delay in bringing forward the competitors and the competitions had passed off without a hitch.
