SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY.
The debate and division in the House of Representatives on Monday night on the Saturday Half-Holiday Bill, introduced by Mr D. Buddo, afforded ample proof that the time has not yet arrived in New Zealand for the observance of an universal half-holi-day, particularly "on the last day of the week. The suggestion thrown out by the won. W. F. Massey that a. poll should be taken over a Provincial district to determine upon what day in the week the half-holiday igfl)f>iild be observed in tihat district, seems to us to. be eminently practicable, and we should like to see it embodied in a Government measure tihis session: The poll might reasonably be taken over the {hospital and charitable aid district, the srolls used in the election of members of hospital boards being utilised foV the halfholiday issue; This would, of oourse, involve the -whole of the members of the hospital board.being elected on the one day, whioh we consider a very 'desirable thine:. . . .
