| Our Own Correspondent. t A njovement is afoot in Carterton I to make a new track to Mount Holdsl worth through the Maungatarere Val- * ley. It that if the movement is successful it will meat a saving of four miles ipn the Waingawa route, and in addition will give a better grade. It will thus enable tourists to make tiie ascent from Carterton and return the same day. At a meeting of the Carterton Volunteer Fire .Brigade on Wednesday evening,*it was decided to remove the small reel, which carries 500 feet of hose, to the fire .brigade shed at the , southern;' end of the borough, and to l procure a new one for the central station. Miller, of the Health Department, was on an official Visit, to Carterton on Thursday. ;% Mr S. Wright, who -le.-ves on Saturday to take up the chit os of stationmaster at Waipukurau, was the re-, eipient of a handj-mie piece of silver plate from the staff of the local station on Wednesday evening. Mr G. L. Downes, senior clerk, made tlie presentation, and in a few ate words alluded to the excellent relations that had always existed between Mr Wright and the staff, who greatly regretted his departure, but was pleased tq& his -promition. Mr 'Wright feedingly acknowledged the gift,, paying a tribute to the good of the staff —a better one he never wished for. t
