ANNEXATION BY FRANCE. (Received July 17, 8.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 17. The steamer Rulambangra brings .details of the annexation of Wallis by France. It was previously a French protectorate. When' the Kersaint, man-of-war, arrived on June 9th, the chiefs turned out to participate in the annexation. ceremony. The native militia paraded, arid after a very effective march past by the latter the chiefs formally handed over control of the island to France. A salute of twentyone guns was then fired. It is stated that a native Parliament will be elected.
