MASTERTON PIPE BAND.
SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL AND DANCE. The social and dance held in the Drill Hall, Masterton, last evening, with a view to raising funds to enable the Pipe Band to proceed to Auckland at Exhibition ti"nie 3 to take part in the piping and dancing contests, was a splendid success, there being about two hundred couples present. The hall was tastefully decorated by the Pipers' Committee, and everything was carried out without a hitch. The function was inaugurated principally by the efforts of Pipe-Sergeant Sutherland, who was responsible for much good work both before and at last night's gathering. The chief of the Caledonian Society (Mr J. Georgeson) presided, and in a neat speech explained the object of the gathering. A pleasing ceremony was the hearing of the Scotch "haggis" round the room .by two pipers. The duties of M's.C. were efficiently performed by Messrs J. Henderson, J. Georgeson, Pipe-Major Pearson, Pipe-Sergeant Sutherland and PipeCorporal Brown. Musical items and Highland music and dancing were contributed during the evening, and dancing was indulged in until the early hours of the morning. Great credit is due to the Ladies' Committee who provided an excellent supper. The committee included the following: The Mayoress (Mrs Coradine), Mesdames Cragg, Sutherland, Spaekman, Findlayson, Mcßae, Johnstone, Scott, Evan McKenzie, J. B. McKenzie and John McKenzie.
