PERSONAL.
Mr P. C. Freeth, who has recently been appointed editor of the Christchurch Star, is at present spending a few days in Masterton. Mr W. Johnston has been elected president of the Dannevirke Chamber of Commerce. Sir William Russell continues to make satisfactory progress towards convalescence, and is mow able to leave his room. Mr Chas. McAllum, of the Martinborough branch of the Union Bank, has been transferred to Hastings. Owing to failing health, Mr A. O. Considine has tendered his resignation as a member of the Martiuborough Town Board. Mr C. H. Mac Lean, for some years manager of the Bank of New Zealand in Napier, is lying seriously ill at that place. The many friends of Mr and Mrs E. Wilson, of Tinui, will regret to learn of the death of their little son Edward, who was accidentally drowned in the Whareama river on Monday last. Mr and Mrs Wilson have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement. Mr James Lavery, an old T© Aroha resident, died suddenly in the street the other day while talking to a friend. Deceased was born in Ireland 75 years ago. Forty-five years ago he arrived on the Thames goldfields, and for the past 36 yeare has resided at Te Aroha. Mr James Mackintosh Fraser died suddenly from an acute heart attack early last Friday morning at the residence of his son, Aka Aka, Waiuku, where he was on a holiday visit. The deceased gentleman arrived in Auckland thirty years ago, and was one of the best-known hotelkeepers in the Dominion, having been licensee of numerous hotels in and around the Auckland district.
