ANIMATED COMPETITION. (By Telegraph—Press Association ) WELLINGTON, Last Night-. The Department of Agriculture has received the fo'lowir.g cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, July 16th : ,T The wool sales have closed. The attendance throughout was goodJ Competition for good quality wools animated, but. hesitating lor inferior sorts.American buyers were holding back on account of the tariff, uncertainties. iThey have taken 2000 bales out of the 43,000 sold for export. In consideration of all the circumstances previously referred to, the sale generally is regarded as satisfactory. The estimated values of superior merinos was Is Id to Is medium lOd to 12d, inferior 8d to lOd, fine crossbreds 12d to 15d; medium, 9£d to ll^d; coarse, BJd to llsd. The number of bales of New Zealand wool held over was 40,500. Provided the general conditions are satisfactory and the present consumption is maintained, the prospects are favourable." '• *-rr l yrr
