PRESS OPINIONS.
As for Reformers, they can afford to regard' the "Liberals" and the "(Red Feds." with a quiet eye,'for the country is at the Government's back, and has' no disposition to trust the ragged regiment of Liberals oi the violent bosses of the Federation, whether they are separate or united. —Clhristchurch Press.
We wish to see the railways managed more and more in the interests of settlement and industry. These are the true principles on which our State railways should be run, and we trust that those principles are not going to be sacrificed to the baser idea of merely "making them pay." —Eltham Argus.
We are firmly convinced' that thf extreme measures of the new Social Democrats will lead to the gradual secession of members, and that the rational portion of the workers now led by Mr McLaren and Mr Fowlds wiH prevail, and -will mould the progressive party of the future. —Southland New.
The great evil of the existing cooperative system since it was introduced has been that the competent workman had either to exert, himself for the benefit of the indifferent workman, or come down to his level. That the result has been a general levelling down has not been the fault of the workmen, but the fault of the system, which the best workmen were unable to remedy though they felt it to 'be unjust. Mr Fraser's innovation .should not only put an end to the injustice but should abolish the Government stroke on NewZealand public works.—Auckland Herald.
