THE ADDRESS-IN-REPLY.
The debate on tie Address-in-Reply has been dragging along in. the House of Representatives at an expense to the oountry which people cau hardly appreciate. There have been charge and counter-charges, criticisms and replies, mud-slinging and recrimination. But nobody has been injured, and no political bones ibave been broken. The Prime Minister made a slashing reply on Tuesday to the attacks made upon liis administration by the disgruntled "Liberals." In the main, his refutation of the charges levelled against the Reform Party was effective. But, as he pointed out himself, the reputation of the Government depends more upon the policy measures it introduces than upon the vague allusions to piospective legislation contained in the Governor's Speech. This serves to eiipihaftise the contention that thi* Ad-dress-in-Reply is a political excrescence, and that the debate upon it is a Sheer waste of valuable timo aoid money. The sooner Parliament gets to work on the serious b'u'mew, of the Country, the better the people will I'fce it.
