STRIKERS REFUSE WORK. ENDEAVOUR TO EFFECT A SETTLEMENT. (Received July 12, 11 a.m.) JOHANNESBURG, July 11. At the last moment, the strikers refused to descend the New Kleinfontein mine unless certain members of the mine staff were dismissed. Arrangements have been made for compensating the strike-breakers temporarily suspended. The strikebreakers are still working the mine. General Smuts and the strikeleaders are endeavouring to come to a settlement. THE DISPUTE SETTLED. PREMIER~HELD UP. "SHOOT IF YOU LIKE!" (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) JOHANNESBURG. July 12. The dispute at New Kleinfontem has been settled, and the troops and police have been withdrawn from the mine. The miners withdrew their objections to the officials.
