MASTERTON FIRE BRIGADE.
ANNUAL MEETING. Tho Annual meeting of the Masterton Fir© Brigade was hold on Tuesday evening in the Central Station. Supt. T. Jenkins presided over a full muster. Correspondence was received from tho U.F.8.A., enclosing forms for the annual returns, etc., also from tho Eketahuna. brigade, and the Nowrnarket brigade. Mr H. T. Wood wrote, thanking th'i Brip;ndo for services rendered, and onciosing a cheque in aid of the Brigade's funds. The secretary's marks and musters for the past year were read and approved, showing 49 roll calls, with an average attendjyice of 19 out of 22. The secretary's report for the year was read and adopted. This dealt inter alia with the fires during the past year, showing the amount of property involved, value insured and uninsured, and losses. The total fire loss show 9 a decrease of £1558, as compared with the previous twelve months. Honours gained and presented during the year are as follows: Ex-sec-retary E. Pragnell, 25 years, gold star; Supt. T. Jenkins, a bar, completing 17 years; Dep. A. H. Pickering, 17 years; Foreman B. Braggins, 21 years; Branchman E. Braggins, 21 years; Foreman E. Jenkins, 13 years. Three years' service Certificates were presented to Branchmen H. Moore, S. Dixon, W. Blinkhorne, L. 0. Sayer, W. Clark, and Fireman C. Cole. The Brigade expressed its indebtedness to the following, for donations of cash and trophies: Mr J. Archer, Mr W. H. Cole, Mr G. Phillips, Mr L. S. Nicol, Mr H. T. Wood, Mr E. Pragnell, Supt. Jenkins, Dep. Pickering, and the Billiard Committee; also to ,19 honorary members for their subscriptions. . - ; : During the year ythe Brigade held a senes of thre.s locaP competitions, for which a handsome shield for aggregate points was presented by Supt. Jenkins and Dep. Pickering. As Branchman Moore won the three events, he is the holder of the shield for 12 months. The balance-sheet of the Brigade showed a net credit bsfffcnce of £4 2s 9d. Members received the sum of £34 Is from the Fire Board for services at fires during the year, which is an average of £1 14s per man, and it has cost the members an average of about £5 per man to pay expenses in connection with the Brigade, including a grant to the team which attended the Wanganui demonstration. The members paid this, as no assistance was received from the Board ,being the first time for 18 years that tho controlling body has not assisted the members in this direction. No grant has been received from the Trust Lands Trust for many years, whereas in the dim past this body made an annual grant of £lO. i Secretary Johnston, in concluding I his report, thanked the officers and members for their cordial assistance during the year. The Executive's report, as submitted to the Fire Board, was read and adopted. Fireman W. Richards reported on behalf of the Social Committee, showing a small credit balance in hart'' The report was adopted, and a vrite of thanks accorded Fireman Richards for his full account. On behalf of the team which attended Wanganui competitions, Sunt. Jenkins present to the Brigade a framed photograph of the team and Secretary Johnston presented a framed photograph of the delegates who attended the annual conference of the U.F.B.A. at ■< The election of officers for suing year resulted as follows: Senior Foreman, C. Cole; Junior Foreman, E. Jenkins (re-elected); Secretary, A. K. Johnston (re-elected); Assistant - Engineer, W. ißlichards; Branchmen, S.. Dixon, J. Hall, W. Blinkhorne, H. Bracsins, for Central Station; Senior Hvdrantman, W. Land; Junior Hydrantman, B. Bragsrins; Branchmen for No. 2 Station, W. Clark, J. Stewart, junr; Brigade's representative on executive, K Braggins; billiard committee, Supt. Jenkins, Dep. Pickering, Secretary Johnston, Foreman 'E. ' Jenkins, Branchmen S. Dixon, H. Brao'Q'iHs, Fireman M. H. Selbv. Epginc-driver J. Stewart applied for a five years' service medal. It was decided to make the usual grant to the paper-runners. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring officers. Supt. Jenkins thanked the members for their attendance during the past year, expressing His appreciation of the enthusiasm snown at nractice and* fires. Supt. Jenkins also thanked the secretary for the manner in which he had carried out his duties during the year.
