A BAD APPOINTMENT.
If the «tatomonta made in the House of Representatives on Tuesday night, by the member for .Nelson are cor- : rect —and there is reason to think that they may be —the Minister of Marine has made an appointment which should not have been made. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher defends the appointment by saying that his nominee had been ejected to a County Council in the district. ' This is not sufficient. The Minister should have satisfied himsolf that the character of the man was above suspicion. But, assuming that a mistake has been made, it cannolb Be held to be a grievous one. It pales into significance before some of the outrageous appointments made by the Continuous Ministry. When wo see supporters of the "Liberal" party condemning the mistakes made by others, we are forcibly reminded of the incident where Satan began reproving the Devil. Two blacks do not make one white, but it is not edifying to see the pot reviling the kettle on account of itg colour.
