HOSPITAL TAXATION.
In a recent issue of the Age we .drow attention to the unfair system'under which-the hospital and charitable :iifl tax is imposed. We pointed out that, while the bulk of the patients came from the centres of population, r large proportion of the taxitibn fell upon the country districts. The matter was discussed at the meeting of the Masterton County Council yesterday, when a suggestion was made tLM the levy, should; he $n ** popula-
tioa instead of & valuation basis. The .question ia of very considerable importanoo to rural taxpayers, and it would be well if the various branches 'of the Fanners' Union wore to take lit up. •
