INSPECTED BY THE KING. (Received July 1, 9 a.m.) LONDON, June 30. Rear-Admiral i'atey, in-Uhief of the new Australian Fleet, received on board the battle-cruiser Australia His Majesty the King and the Prince of Wales; also Sir George Reid (High Commissioner for Australia.) , After an inspection of the vessel, the King addressed the officers. He expressed appreciation of the ship, and wished the officers and crew a pleasant voyage. ADMLRAL KNIGHTED. (Received July 1, 1.30 p.-at.) LONDON, June 30. After tho inspection tho King conferred a knighthood oi" the Victorian Order on Rear-Admiral-Patey. Admiral Patey's knighthood was received with acclamation, [Rear-Adiuiral Patoy was made a M.V.O. in 1908. He was born in 1859, and entered the Navy in 1872. He became Captain in 1900, and Rear-Admiral in 1010. Rear-AdmiraJ Patey served in the Zulu war and during the Cretan insurrection. Before being appointed to the Australian command he commanded the second division of the Second Battle Squadron.]

THE KING GREATLY INTERESTED. (Received this morning 12.50 o'clock.) LONDON, July 1. Tho Australian sailors wore drawn up on the deck while Admiral Patey welcomed tho King and Prince oi Wales. His Majesty closely inspected the vessel, and visited the barbettes, taking a keen interest in all the details of armament. He was extremely solicitous regarding the comfort of the officers and men, and commented on the improved conditions as compared with his own sea service days. He also enquired regarding the Australians serving aboard, upon which the officers joined up with their Royal Navy colleagues in a group on the quarter-deck, and were photographed, the King being the central figure. After the inspection. Sir George. Reid, on behalf of the Australian Government and people, thanked the King for visiting - "this 'your Majesty's first Australian flagship." The King replied that he was vary pleased with all he had seen.

His Majesty then borrowed his Equerry' 6 sword and knighted Admiral Patey.
