OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM.
The system of New Zea-land',-,is just now in the melting-pot. There is a concensus of* opinion amoxig those who have studied educational ; matters that a reform of our system is urgently required. We a>re devoting too much attention to what is termed "higher education," and too little to tihe utilitarian side of the question, AH sorts of abstruse problems are set the boys and girls Of our schools, without any consideration for utility in after life. What is winted is a system of classification, such as that which obtains in some of the Continental countries When the fourth fifth standard in our primary aohools is reached, there should be & process of selection. Boys and girls should be given school work which suits their natural bent and environment. At present we aj*e wasting money and valuable time in imparting knowledge that, in many cases, is useless. A change must be made, and the sooner the better.
