LIGHT-LINK RAILWAYS.
The Manavvatu Times i s advocating tho construction of a light-line railway iKjfcweon Palmorston North and Pahiaku. It is win tended that-such, a lino would b<? of im;net)se/ advantage to the Manawatu \ township. And so it wtmid; but there .are sevoral obstacles in tho way. First of all, there is no money In the Tren «ury chest for the buil.d'ng of lightline or other lines of rail ,vay for the special henefit of ambitious townships. Secondly, there i-i a range of hill<j to be encountered that is a permanent bar to such a wild cat project as that advocated. Thirdly, the natural markets for the FortyMile Bush are Masterton and Wellington. ,And lastly, as'the clerics would say, there are other linos, such as that between Masterton and Waipukurau, that arc of national importance, which have a first claim upon tho country.
