AEROPLANE FLIGHT

IN GLADSTONE DISTRICT,

The Carterton News of yesterday, in reporting an aeroplane flight at Hurunuiorangi Flat on Saturday, says: —

The first flight in this district of an aerial machine took place at the Hurunuiorangi Flat on Saturday, when Mr R. White had several suocessful flutters in the monoplane built by Mr Fisher, of Wellington. The young aviator is only in his "first flight" stage, and is not attempting any record journeys, but is content to skip along at a pretty good pace twenty or thirty feet above the ground for a distance up to a mile. He is gradually learning to manipulate the plane and combit "draws, sucking, drifting, dipping," and all the counteracting forces met with in flying. On Saturday several flights were made in a paddock kindly lent by Mr I. Pike, and those in. charge of the machine are thoroughly satisfied with : its trial. ~

Mr Fisher, who designed and practically built the machine, has had an uphill fight owing to having his own private work to do, and building such a machine requires money. When he has completed all the details he, and hi a friends who are helping him, are confident that their machine will fly anywhere. Its weight, with the pilot up, is 6003b5. The trials on Saturday certainly seemed to point to the conclusion that when the aviator i s more experienced, the machine will fly as well as the best made.

During the flights Mr Barton, a cinematographer from Wellington, took several good films, and also secured some splendid snapshots of the operations.

For Influenza take Woods' Great Peppermint Cure. Never fails. Is 6d, 2s 6d. THE QUALITY COUNTS.: . Crescent Tea is much higher in 'quality and no higher in price than other teas. It is a scientific blend of the choice teas from Darjeeling and Ceylon. There is a subtle charm about the flavour that gives pleasure to the palate, and that flavour never varies.
