BUCHANAN RECEPTION

PROGRESS OF EVENTS. It was decided at Thursday's meeting of the Bnchinan Reception Committee that the date be fixed for July 3. On July 1 the Niagara reaches Auckland, and the committees are arranging for the immediate departure of Sir Walter Buchanan for the Wairarapa. " '

Tho Wairarapa P. and A. Society lias placed its ground s afc the disposal of tho committee free of clnrge.

The Wairarapa Caledonian Pipe Band and tho Carterton Brass Band are each to be asked to be in attendance, and Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., the Mayors of Wairarapa Boroughs, and chairmen on local boclie s are to he asked to make .short speeches of welcome, and no one will he allowed a longer period than five minutes. It was decided that tug-of-war matches Im> arranged, teams being eligible from any one firm, club or society. Thus blacksmiths can pull timbe'rmen, the Caledonian Pipe Band pull the Carterton Bras s Band, the Wairarapa P. and A. Society pnll the Sohvay Society to Carterton, and so on!

The Railway Department is to be written to asking for special train services between Carterton and Masterton,- and Carterton and Featherston. The Caledonian Society i R also to be asked to arrange a short programme of Scotch dances.
