A London cable states that Sir Joseph and Lady Ward wilT sail for New Zealand on June 20th. Mr F. Armstrong, the well-known Hawke's Bay station-owner and sportsman, was a visitor to Masterton yesterday. Dr Jennings, of Sydney, the re-cently-appointed medical officer for the Pongaroa district, will arrive to * take up his duties early next week J Dr Lewis, of Hawke's. Bay, is acting as locum tenems at Maryborough for Dr Robertson, while the lajbter is on a trip to Europe. Senior-Sergeant Darby, who was for many years stationed at Carterton, and who is now in charge of the Nelson police station, will retire from the police, force next month. The Examiner states that the Hawke's Bay Land Board has appointed Mr John Harding ranger oyer the Ahauturanga Block, near Woodville. Mr A. Dickens, of Pongaroa, who is a member of the Akitio County Council, is at present in Hobart, Tasmania. He ia expected to return Pto Pongaroa on July- 15th. Mr William Henry ATkinspn, a very old resident of Wanganui, died there on Sunday, at the age of 61. He was a native of Wanganui, and as a young man he took part in the native wars on the coast, after which he engaged in farming pursuits. . Branchman H. Moore, of the Masterton Fire who is leaving the district, will be entertained by his comrades to-night. Branchman Moore lias always been a keen enthusiast in the service, and was a member- of the team which took part in the Wanganui Demonstration. He also holds the local Shield.
