HOCKEY.

YESTERDAY'S GAMES. The Wararapa Hockey Association's championship fixtures were continued yesterday, three matches, two senior and one junior game, being played at Lansdowne. There was a large attendance of the public present when the games commenced, but shortly after halftime a heavy rain storm came up from the south, causing the crowd to scamper for home. • The great majority, tempted by tho settled appearance | of the weather in the early part of i the afternoon, were coatless, and were wet through by the tine town w.is j reached. The results of the different games were as follow: — CARTERTON (2) v. P. AN]) T. (1). Tho first spoil in this match was very even, each side taking a turn at attacking. P. and T. pressed early in the game, and several good rushes looked promising, but Carterton's defence was very sound. Carterton forwards, when they got the ball, generally got it into the danger /.one, and on several occasions scores seemed imminent, but Williams and Burrows were equal to every emergency, the latter saving several hot shots. Half-time was called with neither having gained any advantage. The second spell was keen and fast, each side making determined efforts to score. F;yirbrother missed a certain score for the visitors by hitting too hard, the ball going over the bar. Miller had bad luck shortly after, a splendid shot striking the upright. Shortly afterwards Miller made up for his bad fortune by scoring for P. and T. Carterton were, however, by no means beaten, and redoubling their energy, soon equalised. The game now became very fast and exciting, and as time was nearly up Carterton secured the winning goal, and they left the field victors by two goals to one.

Messrs Rue and Bannin were the referees. FEATHERSTON (4) v. ST. MATTHEWS (2). These teams were responsible for a good hard game, in which flashes of good hockey were witnessed. The forwards of both s ides made several splendid rushes. The defence, however, was sraund, and the spell was well through before Featherston secured the first score. Just before half-time was called, St. Matthew's equalised, as the result of a good passing bout by the forwards. The second spell wa s in favour of •; Featherston, their forwards being •much superior to the local players. During this spell three goals were added by the visitors. Nuttall improved matters by scoring his second goal for St. Matthew's, but Featherston maintained their lead, and won by four goals to two. Mr Rossbn refereed.

JUNIOR. GRFA T TOWN (1) v. ST. MATTHEW'S (0). In the junior grade, Masterton's ill-fortune continued, and Greytown 'defeated St. Matthew's hy 1 goal to nil, after a splendidly contested game. Mr Gray was referee.
