AT THE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL,
A pleasing little ceremony took place at the "ixeaking-up" ceremony at the'Masterto'i District High School yesterday, whe», in honour of "Empire Day," tli? children were assembled outside the school and .saluted the Union Jack. There was a large gathering of parents, members of the .School Committee, and members of the Overseas Club. The children were addressed by Messrs W. H. Jackson, (headmaster), B. Brown (chairma<n of the School Commattee), A. W. Hogg (member of the Education Board), and H. D. Hebenton (secretary of the Overseas Club). Tha latter read a message concerning Empire Day from Mr Evelyn Wrench, organiser of the Overseas Club, and Mr Hogg delivered a message froTi Captain Halsey, of the battleship New Zealand. At the conclusion of the speech-making, cheers were given for the visitors, and the children sang the "National Anthem."
