The Wanganui Jockey Club's Winter maating opened to-day. The weather was fine, but ■bitterly coid. The attendance was large, and speculation was very brisk, the machine handling £18,643, compared with £16,128 for the first, day of the Winter meeting last year. The going was fair, and tb/.s racing very good. xCesults:—

Also ran—s tyrannic, 4 Bismarck, 1 Salopian, 6 Levant, 8 Makiri, 3 Rebel, 11 Loopline, 7 Drudgery, 10 Otohau. Won by a head. Fireworks was some distance away. Time, 4min 18 l-6sec. Salopian fell breaking his neck.

This position was maintained to th< finish, Glenmore winning by four anc a half lengths. Leolanter was three lengths ahead of Dorando. The Spaniard was fourth, and Okaihau fifth.. The jumping all through the race was very good. Time, 6min 13 l-ssec.

Morning led most of the way and -won comfortably by l£ lengths from Goodwin Park. Watch Chain was ten lengths away third. Time, 3mn 18 T-osec. Century Hurdles, of 300 sovs; about 2} miles.—s J. R. L.
