MRS DRUMMOND'S ILLNESS.
OPERATION NECESSARY

At the hearing of the conspiracy case in which seven women (including Mrs Drummond and a man nanie<i Clayton, a consulting analyst) an charged with conspiracy with Mri Pankhurst and otners to damage property, a doctor stated that an operation on Mrs Drummond was necessary. He added that at his request an address that was to be given at the nursing home where Mrs Drummond is was withheld, because the public was boycotting the home. Mrs Drummond's period of bail was extended by two months. Mrs Strange gav<j, evidence that after the destruction of her ,Kew and other tea rooms, she appealed to Miss Kerr, one of the accused, to discontinue the outrages, but the latter refused. Promise, a medal maker, gave evidence as to supplying the Women's Social and Politica Union , with medals and brooches inyeribi'd "JFor Valour. Fed by force. Hunger strike." some of the medals cost a pound each. The words "Votes for Women!" were scratched on drapers' windows at Norwich". It will cost five hundred pounds to replace the windows.

The Labour press agency states tliat though Mr Mac Donald does not favour militancy lie will print T Suffragette, because the Governmentwill shrink from dealing with prominent opponents. If he is arrested, Mr Keir Hardie -will replace .him anc so on until tho Government is wearied- or the supply of martyrs runs out.
